TasteMate stores your taste library on your computer. The desktop app and capture extension do not upload your saved examples to a TasteMate server.

Your library

Examples can include screenshots, selected text, page titles, source URLs, categories, timestamps, and your annotations. These are saved as files in your local profile folder. New profiles use Documents/TasteMate; existing or custom locations are shown inside the app.

Unfinished captures are kept in the browser profile until saved or discarded. Saving transfers them to the local desktop library. You can remove saved examples in TasteMate and discard unfinished captures in the extension. Backups or synced copies you create are controlled by you.

Capturing a page

The extension captures a page only when you invoke its button, shortcut, or selection menu. It does not continuously monitor your browsing. The desktop app’s optional URL preview contacts the website you enter to retrieve content; that website receives a normal web request.

The installation website

When you click Check connection, the page asks TasteMate Capture whether it can reach the desktop app. The response contains connection status and software version numbers. The website does not receive your screenshots, notes, categories, file paths, or other library contents.

TasteMate does not add advertising or analytics trackers to this website. The hosting provider processes normal requests, which can include your IP address and browser information, to deliver and secure the website. A private preview may require its hosting provider’s sign-in.

Downloads and external services

Installer downloads and issue reports are hosted on GitHub. The browser extension will be distributed through the Chrome Web Store. Those services process visits and downloads under their own policies. Information you choose to include in a public GitHub issue is public.

Using AI tools

Connecting an agent or uploading an export gives that tool access to the content you select or authorize. Its handling of that information is governed by its provider and your settings. Your library is not automatically uploaded merely by visiting this website or installing TasteMate.
